Chances are if you are reading this, you probably already know all about Reddit. Dubbed as the front page of the internet, it is the one-stop-shop where everyone goes to learn something new and interact with people all over the world. So what are the best personal finance subreddits you can find on Reddit?

For that, you have come to the right place. Reddit is comprised of what they call subreddit. These are communities within reddit that talk about certain topics and discussions. For example, r/Cars talks all about cars, photos, engines, etc.

Another example is r/funny This subreddit talks and shares anything and everything that can be funny. It could be funny jokes, funny gifs, or even funny stories that anyone wants to share. My personal favorite 🙂

Now, when it comes to personal finance, Reddit has subreddits dedicated to just that. Let’s go over the top 5 personal finance subreddits you should definitely check out.

r/PersonalFinance

Let’s start off with the most obvious, but probably the most important one on this list. r/PersonalFinance is undoubtedly the most popular and well-known subreddit that talks all about personal finance. If you want the go-to personal finance subreddit on reddit, this is it!

At the time of writing this, this community boasts well over 14.2 million members and people that interact on a daily basis. Everyone on there is probably seeking the same as as you are, and are learning from each other.

So, if you have any questions regarding personal finance and want some input from others, this is a very excellent place to start. You can’t go wrong with this subreddit.

r/FIRE

If you are not familiar with the acronym FIRE, it basically stands for Financial Independence / Retire Early. By the name alone, it’s pretty obvious what members of r/FIRE talk about.

It’s definitely one of my personal favorites although it is relatively smaller than others on this list. This thread is still very active and has very good resources and discussions that you can learn from.

You can learn so much and have a deeper understanding of reaching Financial Independence and retiring early. There are topics ranging from Fast-tracking your Investments, earning passive income, and planning for retirement.

Definitely worth checking out if you are early in the game and are aiming to reach early Financial Independence and early retirement.

r/PovertyFinance

Statistically, the majority of people reading this are living paycheck-to-paycheck. It’s not a fun topic to discuss, and sometimes we would rather avoid it, but to this is where r/PovertyFinance comes in.

r/PovertyFinance was initially designed for those that are living below the poverty line. The advice, recommendations, and question to ask can really apply to anyone that wants to live within their means.

No matter where you are on the property line, discussions that are had here are super helpful. Topics range from minimizing grocery costs, health insurance costs, and how to make a side income.

To top it off, you can also read and share success stories that have helped others motivate themselves. Heck, you might get some good motivation by reading others that have walked the path you are walking right now.

r/Frugal

r/Frugal is definitely quite the behemoth. Boasting over 1.3 million members, it is one of the very popular ones on Reddit that talk about personal finance.

Don’t let the name fool you, they are loads of helpful tips and tricks that people share on this subreddit. You don’t necessarily need to be very frugal to apply the advice that is given here.

The topics and discussions had on the subreddit can I help you think outside the box when it comes to stretching your dollar a little further.

It’s super helpful to have an Outsider’s opinion, and there is no better place to get it done this subreddit. The goal with money is always to spend less than you make, and to achieve that, you need to work on you spending less than you earn.

That’s where being Frugal comes in. Definitely worth checking out, And if you have some Frugal tips to share, feel free to show them here. The members of this subreddit would definitely appreciate it.

r/Investing

Unlike the other subreddits that I listed above, r/Investing focuses mostly on investing your money. Once you have mastered how to save, how to spend properly, and how to control your money, then investing is the next logical step.

With a healthy size off 1.2 million members, there are loads of topics that discuss investing. Not only do they talk about investing in the stock market, there are discussions relating to investing for retirement, investing for a business, and more.

When you start investing your money, you are now taking the offensive side. Budgeting, being Frugal, and saving are defensive tactics that help you control your money. Once you have mastered control, then you take offense and make even more money. Voila, investing! 🙂

There are some really awesome discussions had here, so definitely give it a go.

Advantages of using SubReddits

When you are taking your personal finance Journey, it’s important to grasp every concept and understand different perspectives. Just reading a single book, or a single article, won’t be enough to have a Broad understanding of money.

By learning other people’s opinions, you can have a better understanding of whatever topic you are learning about it. If it’s about investing, saving, or even budgeting, having Insight on how other people do it is invaluable.

One more super important advantage of using subreddits is that you can ask questions and get answers. Unlike random forums, the Reddit community is very active and is willing to give actual advice on personal finance.

Hop onto any of the subreddits mentioned above, and post your question. Chances are, you will probably have an answer within the next hour. Super helpful resource to have.

Disadvantages of using SubReddits

The opposite is true for the advantages I have listed above. Yes, it’s super helpful to have different opinions, but it can get super confusing if the opinions are contradictory.

A person can answer your question with their opinion, but it doesn’t make it a fact. It’s simply their opinion. It’s really up to you at that point to do your own research and come to your own conclusion.

Just like any community on the internet, you always faced trolls or people that give false advice for fun. So be cautious and don’t follow any advice without doing your own research.
