Digest Your Finances explains personal finance in plain English and publishes free calculators and data studies. Money decisions are high-stakes, so this page sets out exactly how the site is made.
Who is behind the site
The site is written and built by Field Chari, a software engineer and long-time investor. It is owned and operated by EvlarSoft LLC, a Missouri company. Field Chari is not a licensed financial adviser, tax professional or attorney, and nothing here is personalized advice. When a decision depends on your full situation, we say so and point you to a licensed professional.
Where the numbers come from
Every rate, price and historical figure comes from a primary or official source: the U.S. Treasury, the Federal Reserve, the IRS, the Department of Labor, the World Bank, Freddie Mac, the New York Stock Exchange and SIFMA, among others. Each study names its source on the page, and the data & methodology page lists every one, with how often it is checked.
Live figures (Treasury yields, mortgage rates, metals prices) are fetched automatically and the page shows the date of the figure. If a source fails to update, we keep the last good value and show its date rather than guessing.
How automation is used
- A nightly job pulls fresh figures from the sources above and rebuilds the data pages.
- Older articles that quote a dated figure, such as the current 30-year mortgage rate, are updated by a script that is handed the exact official value. It may only change the number and its date; it cannot add claims, and an edit that changes the headline or rewrites the article is rejected. This script uses an AI language model to find the sentence that needs the new number.
- A page’s “updated” date changes only when its content changes, not when a job merely runs.
Ads and affiliate links
The site is free and is paid for by display ads and some affiliate links, which can earn us a commission if you sign up for a product. Pages with affiliate links carry a disclosure, the links are marked as sponsored for search engines, and they never decide what a calculator says. We do not sell sponsored posts or links, and we do not accept guest posts. See the affiliate disclosure.
Keeping old articles honest
Some articles date back to 2020. We do not put the current year in a headline unless the article has actually been rewritten that year, and articles we no longer stand behind are taken out of search. Each article shows when it was first published and when it last changed.
